Eyelid Rejuvenation

What is Eyelid Rejuvenation?

Eyelids that are open, radiant, and well-positioned with aesthetic contours make a person appear alert, energetic, and engaging. Our goal at EFI is to work with you to create and restore natural, aesthetic, and functionally-optimized eyelid anatomy and contour that will convey your vitality and natural charm.

We employ a large armamentarium of treatment options including medical-grade skin care regimens, injectables, laser resurfacing, radiofrequency tightening, blepharoplasty, and many other adjunct surgical procedures.

At what age should I be thinking about eyelid rejuvenation?

The eyelids are typically the first facial structures to show signs of aging, commonly during the 3rd decade of life. These aging signs include dark circles, fine wrinkles, deeper lines around the eyes, eyelid hooding, and fat pad herniation. Over time, these aging signs will progress and eventually other facial structures become involved. Our patients range in age from early 20s to over 100 years old depending on their unique concerns and problem areas. You will know if it’s the right time for you to seek professional advice.

How would I know which type of treatment is best for me?

During your consultation with us, we would carefully examine your eyes using a specialized microscope, take measurements of your eyelids for height and contour, and fully evaluate your facial skin quality, the resting positions of your brows, and your deeper facial structures in order to determine which treatment options will best address the problem areas. After reviewing these options with you to determine your unique goals, we can formulate a customized plan.

Can eyelid rejuvenation be accomplished non-surgically?

Absolutely. While some patients simply need a great skin-care regimen or chemical peel, others benefit from injectables such as botulinum toxin (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport) or dermal filler (eg. Restylane, Juvederm, Sculptra). Medical devices such as laser skin resurfacing and radiofrequency tightening are also very effective. Often a combination of these minimally-invasive treatment options can create very measurable, powerful results.

What are the risks of eyelid rejuvenation?

Any intervention to rejuvenate the eyelids, whether it’s non-surgical (e.g. Botox, Restylane, laser etc.) or surgical (e.g. blepharoplasty, fat transfer) inherently carries the risk of potential trauma to your eyes and vision. At EFI, our team of eye plastic and facial plastic surgeons has advanced training in eyelid rejuvenation treatments. We perform a high volume of interventions, so have developed skill set mastery in this area. Other risks include under-treatment or over-treatment as well as potential scarring and eyelid asymmetry. Once again, these types of risks are mitigated if the physician has advanced training with high-volume clinical experience.

What maintenance is needed for eyelid rejuvenation?

The maintenance requirements vary for the different treatment options. Botulinum toxin (Botox, Xeomin, Dysport) injections are repeated every 3 months, subdermal hyaluronic acid fillers are reinjected after 6-18 months, non-ablative laser or radiofrequency tightening is repeated every 4-12 months, ablative carbon dioxide laser skin resurfacing is repeated every 12-24 months, and surgical blepharoplasty should last for decades or a lifetime. Because the unique combination of specific eyelid rejuvenation treatments varies amongst people and over time, the maintenance requirements vary accordingly.
